Mandy is the creative talent behind The Magpie Cat, designing and crafting unique jewellery since 2020. What began as a hobby, and a creative reflection of her busy role as a foster carer for a young lass with complex needs, has since grown into a small business. Now, with Mandy and her husband, Rob, officially welcoming their foster daughter into their family and out of the care system, The Magpie Cat has evolved from an alternative pastime into an enterprising business venture.

Nestled in the Scottish Borders for over 20 years, (a relative newcomer!) Mandy draws inspiration from nature, diverse cultures, folklore, and seasonal events. She enjoys the challenge of intricate design, a passion reflected in many of her creations. The Selkie, Kelpies, and the etched and vibrant hues of her acrylic tartan—part of the Scottish collection—are just a few examples of her detailed and inspired work.

Mandy prefers to use acrylic sheets sourced from manufacturers that prioritise recycled materials and sustainable production methods. She also ensures that no material goes to waste, recycling all her cut-offs with the help of her trusty galvaniser.

It brings Mandy immense joy to see her creations being worn and to hear how they bring happiness—not just to the wearer, but also to those who admire the artistry.
