About Us
Now in its 10th year, Art at Ancrum is an annual art event, celebrating local artists showcasing their work in the village of Ancrum over the course of the Early May Bank Holiday weekend.
The event first began in 2013, building on the success of the 2012 ‘Crossing Borders’ Art Trail exhibition, a group of participants proposed a new initiative, a long weekend of celebrating the arts in the village of Ancrum. Due to the Covid-19 epidemic the event was postponed for two years, until it returned in 2022.
The artists are based in and around the Scottish Borders, many exhibiting in local and national galleries and other exhibitions. The three day long event provides an opportunity for the public to view high quality, locally produced artwork, to meet meet and support the artists, take part in demonstrations, and enjoy all that the village has to offer.
The event is FREE ENTRY with donations welcome in support of The Lavender Touch, this year’s charity – more information about their involvement and cause can be found on our fundraising page.
Art at Ancrum is a constituted, non-profit distributing organisation. Our members are the artists and other community members, including the venue owners. Our venues include the Village Hall, the Bowling Club, the marquee (provided by the Village Fete Committee), the Ancrum Cross Keys pub and a number of private houses and gardens. The event is managed by a small organising group of artists working with two joint coordinators from the local community.
Our helpful volunteers based in the information point van, at the bottom of the green, have brochures and maps that showcase the variety of artists and their locations.
The town of Ancrum is a small village with a strong sense of community, with many of the exhibitor’s venues in private homes and gardens. This means that access to some of these locations may be challenging to visitors with mobility problems. However, the Village Hall has been adapted for wheelchair access, and ramps can be made available at the Bowling Club on request.
