Amanda Withall Linocut Printmaker
As a self-taught linocut printmaker Amanda’s work reflects her background in Fine Art and Botanical drawing. Both these elements are evident within her detailed linocuts.
I have always been drawn to the magical simplicity of the printed image - the importance of the light and the space left behind to reveal the identity of the subject.
Having completed my Fine Art Diploma after my first son was born, raising our family and running a business meant that my artistic endeavours were jostled between their priorities.
I was inspired to work for a period as an art therapist in a hospital for those suffering with their mental health – where I developed a love for experimental practice and teaching.
My love for printing was re-ignited through a course at the Edinburgh Printmakers, and I subsequently acquired a second hand printing press to pursue my passion.
During the next few years I focussed on studying the various skills that are necessary to create successful designs - both mono and reduction print images.
I have exhibited at Art @ Ancrum previously and in conjunction with The Tin Shed at Ford & Etal. I have been invited this year to take part in The Borders Art Fair. I have sold my work both privately and by commission and I now share my excitement for this deceptively simple art form by running workshops from my home studio.
