Margaret Findlay

Venue 15 - Alewood

Looking at photographs from the Hubble Telescope you can feel you are looking from everlasting to everlasting, something wondrous and eternal. In contrast man-made constructions are most often functional, sometimes beautiful but always finite.

The abandonment of cottages and farm buildings has lead to a wealth of derelict buildings for me to explore. I can see the careful construction, imagine the sights and sounds in their heyday and then I see the beauty in the quality of light that comes from gaping roofs, bouncing down from beam to beam, streaming down pipes, cables and broken down walls.

In my work I seek to capture the transience of these buildings, that my paintings stand as a testament to the echoes of what once was but will soon be gone forever.
