Gillian Chestnutt

Gillian is an artist inspired by her surroundings in the Scottish Borders.  She creates bold and beautiful images of birds and animals with an emphasis on colour, light and glow.

I grew up in the village of St Boswells and have spent my whole life in and around the Scottish Borders.  Now living in Peebles I love nothing more than scouring my beautiful surroundings to capture photographs of the incredible wealth of wildlife and farming life I’m so lucky to live next to.  These photographs inspire my paintings.

Art has always been a love of mine and it’s been the most exciting adventure to turn my passion into my job over the past 3 years.  As a self taught artist my work accidentally snowballed from selling a single painting of a pheasant to now exhibiting all across Scotland.

2025 has been especially exciting for me having been selected to create an installation at Dalkeith Country Park Restoration Yard, as well as being chosen to participate in the Borders Art Fair for the second consecutive year and of course at Art at Ancrum for the first time.  I can’t wait to see where this adventure takes me next.

You can find out more about Gillian on her website, facebook and instagram.
