Danielle Ray
Danielle will be located in Venue 8 - Southernknowe
Danielle crafts innovative and distinctive jewellery from silver, copper, and brass, featuring unusual semiprecious stones, textured and engraved surfaces, and forms inspired by nature.
For most of my artistic career, I have focused on wearable works as a medium of artistic expression. I studies jewellery and textile design at Parsons School of Design in New York and California State University, Los Angeles and have worked with many media, especially metal, fibres and leather. The main materials which I use in my current jewellery collections are silver, copper, brass and semiprecious stones. They feature techniques of torch texturing and fusing, engraving and chasing (stamping with steel punches) intricate fretwork and patination. Their forms are inspired by leaves and branches, seashore pebbles and seaweed, fossils and more abstract linear patterns.
My jewellery is crafted in my home studio and garage, with fine views over Hawick and the surrounding hills. I have exhibited my work in galleries in the Scottish Borders, Northumberland and Edinburgh.
