Stuart Norman

Stuart is a landscape artist based in Kelso.  He paints in both Oils and acrylics. He is showing a new body of oil paintings inspired by the hedgerows and treelines of the Borders Harvest.

“I make various sketches on location around the Borders, Scotland and further afield. At Harvest time, I often feel the Borders is like a sea of gold, with the rolling waves of crops punctuated by the lines of trees, standing timeless in the landscape. When the sun is low, the light piercing through, this is a big draw to me. Working in the studio I use colour and mark making to produce an expressive response to the ever-changing light and colour that we are lucky to enjoy. I have used my oil paints in a textural way, building layers, scraping away, allowing the final image to gradually emerge.”
