Jan creates high quality original fine artworks using watercolour, gouache and acrylics, specialising in wildlife and pet portraiture.

Born in 1955 at Newcastle upon Tyne from a small child I was always passionate about animals and always drawing.

At 13yrs of age, I was sent to Newcastle University Kings college art school at weekends, I did not enjoy the art school and decided I did not want a career as an artist in my youth, and later trained as a nurse.

In 1985 I moved with my family to Argyll, which provided me with a never-ending source of inspiration and once again I started drawing and painting had many successful exhibitions over the years. In 2018 I moved to the borders nr Denholm, another beautiful area which once again inspires me to paint.

I have studied the physiology and behaviour of animals all my life, I work mostly in watercolour and gouache and occasionally with acrylics. I find conservation board works best for my detailed work, as I have always wished my animals could truly come to life.
