Helen Pugh-Cook Ceramics
Helen will be located in Venue 16 - Village Hall Marquee
Helen produces unique ceramic pieces using a range of experimental techniques. Influenced by Asian artifacts she sympathetically combines this with where she resides in the beautiful Scottish Borders.
Having always been surrounded by Asian artifacts brought back by my ancestors or my own travels has always greatly influenced my work, particularly in the shape of the forms I create. Living in the countryside of the beautiful Scottish Borders often can be seen through the textures and colours I apply on to the forms. From the bark like textures to the flowing lines of the agricultural tracks as they curve over the landscape are a regular trait in my work.
The 20th Century studio potters who took the craft of pottery into a new Art form have inspired my experimental approach. I mainly use stoneware clay and fire my work using various techniques including Raku.
My intention is never to speculate what I’m going to create, thus each piece is unique and I never get bored of making!
