Fiona Morris

Fiona will be located in Venue 16 - Village Hall Marquee

My ceramics emerged from a growing fascination with smaller - sometimes tiny - details of the land - and seascapes I had been drawing and painting for some years. Drawing remains the starting point of my practice; through it I investigate the subject and it is still a focus in itself. But as I began to delve more into the forms and textures of a broken shell, a leaf or a fragment of bark, exploring what I was seeing and feeling in three dimensions became increasingly important to me.

When drawing, I use a variety of dry media: pencil, charcoal and soft pastels. For ceramics I work with a variety of clays, from rough gritty cranks to smooth earthenwares, which gives me the opportunity to experiment with a variety of effects. I produce work which is sculptural and often functional, aiming for pieces that are interesting to look at and touch.
